    Sujet

Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is a member of a family of structurally-related low molecular weight proinflammatory factors known as chemokines. Alternative designations for IL-8 include neutrophil attractant protein-1 (NAP-1), neutrophil activating factor (NAF), monocyte-derived neutrophil chemotactic factor (MDNCF), leukocyte adhesion inhibitor (LAI), monocyte derived neutrophil-activating peptide (MONAP) and granulocyte chemotactic protein (GCP). Although it was initially described as a chemotactic factor produced by activated monocytes, IL-8 has since been found to be produced by a variety of different cell types including monocytes, T lymphocytes, endothelial cells, epithelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and fibroblasts. Autocrine production by neutrophils also occurs under certain conditions.
